4 Steps from Empty to Overfow

I can not remember a time in my life when I was not “planning” something. It’s just my nature to always be creating some new fun event, practically impossible project, fairly unrealistic expectation or weaving a new God Sized dream either for myself or someone else 🙂

Need a dream? I’m your girl. (maybe I should say old woman but I just won’t)

When I get dream drag I know that I am falling into a bit of either burn out or just plain exhaustion. I have faced a bit of both this year.

As I have looked for some fresh motivation over the past few months, I have been surprised to see where I found it.

Doing nothing.

Wow. Who knew.

For a person who is ALWAYS doing or planning SOMETHING, this has been a true shock.

I have been totally unproductive for about 6 weeks now. I have been busy being places and doing things but have been professionally and personally unproductive.

I have created nothing new.
I have dreamed nothing big.
I have written nothing spellbinding.
I have desperately dug for no great spiritual truths.

It’s been very weird but I have discovered a few wonderful new things without even trying:

1. When you switch from one foot to the other while pushing a swing, it can make you dizzy.

2. The best place in the entire world to read a great fiction is nestled inside a kyack in the middle of a lake.

3. Long car drives that allows you to take ALL your shoes and big bottles of shampoo beats airplane travel a billion to one.

4. Walking up and down boat slips on busy wharfs dreaming of what it would be like to live on a sailboat makes you hungry for fried shrimp.

I hope this post helps you embrace empty 🙂

  1. My pastor takes the entire month of July every year for Study Month. He travels to accellerated churches and attends conferences, surrounding himself with leaders that fuel and challenge him. But his most anticipated time every year are the few days he takes to be silent and listen to Jesus at a Monastary. No phones, computers, assistants or agendas. Just him and Jesus. The most amazing ministries and services at our church have been birthed from his time at the Monastary. My pastor is like you Pat. He stays busy and dreams big. But He knows he has to set time aside to see the dreams Jesus has so they become his. So glad you got some quiet time to be still:)
And I love the idea of reading a book in a kyack! I may have to try this:) Without kids of course!

  2. Hi Danni,
Thank you for stopping by. I love your Pastor’s pattern for rest and restoration. I completely agree and learned long ago that you can’t give out what you do not have.
Time to reflect and regroup is truly not an option!
Blessing friend, I pray that you have had or will have your own time to read in a kyack 🙂
    Pat
