Sunrise Reminds Me of My Daddy

I am NOT a morning girl. Nope. Not at all.

I am MORE of a morning girl than a certain daughter of mine who will go un-named (even though I only have one daughter :))

But still, to me, early morning is for sleeping. It is not my most energetic time of day. I normally roll out of bed as the light of day slips into our bedroom, waddle in for my coffee, drop into my prayer chair and wake up with Jesus and my journal. No talking.

A few days ago I was required to bounce out of my bed before the sun came up to attend an early morning meeting. I fumbled my way through coffee and getting out the door with barely a “good morning” to my honey and nary a smile to greet the day. As my headlights headed east towards the meeting spot I was taken aback by an unfamiliar blessing. The sun had begun to creep up into the sky.

OH MY.

My breath was stolen by the captivating colors of the cotton candy clouds that loomed ahead of me. I broke into a tearful grin as I recalled an encounter I had many years ago with my Dad. He had shown up at the front door of my house at O’Dark Thirty to repair something that was broken. My Dad was a very early riser so to him, being at my door at 6:30 am was no big deal. He had been up for hours. When I opened the door with my PJ’s on and sleep still stuck in my eyes, I spotted the stunning sunrise just beyond him from the doorway and exclaimed over his head at it’s amazing glory. “Wow! Look at that! It’s as pretty as the sunrise, who knew!?”

My Dad just rolled his eyes and said “Yes Pat, the sunrise is just as magnificent as the sunset, see what you have been missing all these years”. He constantly teased me about my lack of knowledge of the sunrise for many years to follow. My Dad passed away many years ago but when I saw that Sunrise, I thought of him.

Habakkuk 3:4 says this about Sunrise:

His coming is as brilliant as the sunrise.

Rays of light flash from His hands, where His awesome power is hidden. (NLT)

I have shared a few more thoughts about the Sunrise and my Abba Father over on a SEEDS Blog today over at Imagine Me…Set Free. I would be so honored to have you use it for this weeks devotional time.

In the meantime, God is so FREE with His GIVEAWAYS, I mean a FREE SUNRISE, come on!! You can’t beat that!

So, I will make my little attempt for an August give-away with this!
