In our bustling lives filled with continuous transitions and unexpected upheavals, how often do we actually stop to catch our breath? In the latest episode, amidst personal stories of hurricanes and life’s unpredictability,
I CONTINUE TO find myself pondering over how crucial it is to embrace those quiet pauses. This isn’t just a poetic exercise; it’s a necessary rhythm for spiritual and emotional well-being. Inspired by Psalm 7:17, let’s create moments to give thanks, sing praises, and strengthen our roots for the seasons ahead.
Consider Permission to Pause your invitation to take a deep, lasting breath and pause.
Reflect on Psalm 7:17: “I will give thanks to the Lord because of His righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High.”
In the sacred pauses, when we quiet our minds and lift our faces toward heaven, we create a space to hear God’s whispers, to receive His peace, and to draw strength from His eternal truths. Remember the words of CS Lewis: “In silence and meditation on eternal truth, I hear the voice of God, which excites my heart to greater love.”
As I sat on my swing, enveloped by the beautiful colors of fall, I witnessed a powerful metaphor. The falling leaves, though short-lived in their brilliance, prepare the trees for the barren winter ahead. Similarly, each life transition – whether joyful or challenging – prepares us for the next phase. We are reminded of Matthew 11:28, where Jesus invites us to “come away with me and reorder your life.”
Fall is a time to appreciate beauty, yes, but also to strengthen our roots. Our spiritual roots must delve deep, nourished by faith and God’s righteousness, especially when life’s winds of change threaten to uproot us.
In the wake of natural disasters like hurricanes, I’ve seen firsthand the significance of having deep, resilient roots. How do we prepare for our own ‘winters’ – those challenging seasons that strip away the externals and test our core? Our faith, character, and trust in God are our roots. During a time of political upheaval or personal trials, these roots become our anchor. While the outward appearance may seem desolate, beneath the surface, we’re fostering growth that will sustain us through the harshest winters.
Activities to Strengthen Your Roots
- Daily Prayer and Meditation: Start your day with a moment of prayer. Use simple expressions of gratitude and requests for guidance to ground yourself.
- Scripture Reading: Dive into the Bible. Don’t rush; let the words speak to you. Internalize messages of hope, love, and faith.
- Journaling: Reflect on your day, noting areas of growth and gratitude. This practice solidifies lessons learned and helps in spiritual growth.
- Seek Community: Engage with a spiritual or faith-based community. Shared experiences and collective worship are powerful in bolstering one’s faith during trying times.
A Prayer for Strong Roots
“Lord, we thank You for the changing seasons, for the eternal cycle of life You have created. Teach us, God, to embrace these transitions with grace and trust. Deepen our roots in You so that when times of change and hardship come, we stand firm, nourished by Your Spirit. As we embark on the quieter season of winter, may our unseen growth prepare us for the blossoming future You have planned. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
