God Does His Best Work in the Hallway
Have you ever wondered why so much of life feels like waiting?
We love stories of open doors, answered prayers, and bold new beginnings. We celebrate the moment God calls, provides, heals, or leads us into something new. But when I read Scripture, I notice something interesting.
God rarely moves people from one chapter to the next overnight.
There is almost always an in-between season—a hallway.
Moses had the wilderness.
David had the caves.
Ruth had the fields.
Esther spent months in preparation before she ever walked into the palace.
Even Jesus lived for years in quiet obscurity before His public ministry began.
We celebrate the doors.
God often does His deepest work in the hallways.
So how do you know if you’re standing in one?
I’ve noticed three gentle clues.
1. First, what used to fit… doesn’t anymore.
Not because it was wrong. Not because you’ve failed. You’ve simply outgrown it. The season that once brought life and purpose now feels complete. We often mistake that feeling for failure when it may actually be God’s invitation into something new. Sometimes we think we’ve lost our passion. Sometimes God is making room for a new one.
2. Second, you sense movement without direction.
You know something is changing, but you can’t quite explain what it is. The future feels blurry. The next step isn’t obvious. That uncertainty can be uncomfortable, but uncertainty doesn’t mean God has disappeared. More often, it means He’s inviting you to trust Him more deeply than your own understanding.
3. Third, you look backward with gratitude and forward with hope.
You find yourself thankful for where you’ve been, yet quietly aware that your story isn’t finished. Something inside you whispers, There is more. Not more striving. Not more busyness. More purpose. More alignment. More becoming the woman God has been shaping all along.
If this describes your heart today, take courage.
The hallway isn’t a place where God has forgotten you.
It’s a place where He is preparing you.
The hallway may not be where you expected to spend this season, but it may become the place where your faith deepens, your identity settles, and your calling becomes clearer than ever before.
Don’t rush through the hallway.
Walk it with Jesus.
He knows exactly where the next door is—and He’s walking beside you every step of the way.
