Re-ROOTING–When Prayers Grow Weary and Hope Feels Quiet
Dear Friend,
Yesterday, I threw myself a little pity party.
The fall leaves were pouring like rain filling the gray sky and blanketing the ground around our home with a swirl of browns, oranges, yellows, and reds.It was truly breathtaking. Like the scene from a YOU TUBE music video.
At the same time, I could feel my heart, my spirit, my mood–falling just as fast.
My Sunday plan was not working.
I had hoped that maybe, if the house glowed brightly enough, my heart might follow so, I unpacked Christmas early this year hoping maybe if I filled the house with enough sparkle, my heart would catch up.
That plan did not work. As I unpacked old favorites and listened to memorized lines from “The Holiday” playing from my TV in the background, I felt my spirit slipping toward discouragement. I could almost hear that subtle whisper: “Why are you doing this, no one will be here. No one will see it.”
Twinkling lights are always beautiful, holiday music is always nostalgic, but as I hung each ornament, the ache settled. The ache for things that haven’t changed for the past few years. An ache for prayers still unanswered, and for a few that God seems to have clearly said NO to.
Maybe you know that space, too—when the silence of heaven feels heavier than the sound of your own sigh.
But then, another whisper, a ROOTED WHISPER, came—stronger, steadier: “Look around. You are surrounded by grace.”

THAT WHISPER reminded me—gratitude isn’t about pretending the heartbreaks or losses are not real. It’s about remembering that God still is.
When we feel weary or overlooked, gratitude becomes our lifeline—our way of staying rooted when emotions try to pull us loose. It’s what keeps us steady when life doesn’t make sense, and prayer feels like talking into the wind.
Paul said it best in Colossians 2:7:
“Be rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
So today, I’m choosing to water my hearts roots with gratitude—naming blessings, even the quiet ones.
The decorations are lovely–even if just for me and Honey :)) JESUS SEES!

Let’s anchor our hearts again—not in what’s missing, but in the God who never leaves.
