When Life Gets Messy
Mary, did you know that your baby boy would someday walk on water? Mary did you know?
Good Monday morning Friend!
Honestly, these verses make me weepy with admiration and inspiration. They need no introduction just a whole bunch of reflection and memorization.
Let’s break down Mary’s song and the overflow of a sold out heart!
Mary’s Song
46 And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me-
holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”
Luke 1:46-55 (NIV)
Who we really are and what we really believe is squeezed out when we are under pressure. We can’t hide it or fake it. When we are in trouble, afraid, threatened, or hurt, the abundance of our heart will overflow every time. In these verses we see an example of a woman after God’s own heart. We see why Mary has “favor” and why she is blessed. Mary fully believed that God would accomplish His purposes for her life, even in a time of trouble, fear, threat and heartbreak.
Every time I read through these words I have to ask myself, “is this how I would respond? Am I a woman who has positioned myself to receive all God has for me?”
1. My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
A heart of praise
2. Mindful of the humble state of his servant.
A heart of humility
3.Generations will call me blessed.
A heart of confidence in which God designed His perfect plan for her life!
4. Mighty One has done great things for me– holy is his name.
A heart of gratitude
5. Lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things.
A heart of surrender
His mercy extends…
He has performed great things…
He has (and will) brought down rulers from their thrones…
He has filled us with great things.
In His grip with you my friend!!
Pat
Prayer: Lord, thank you that you never give up on me. Thank you for GRACE and for the fresh chance of every new day. Fill my heart with faith Lord and teach me your ways. I long to honor you in my life and for the overflow of my heart to sing your praises! Amen.
Good morning Pat,
What a lovely thought to begin the day. I want more of all those things in my life, as well. Especially a heart of surrender and gratitude and praise. Well, just all of it. Thank you for taking time in this busy season to write your thoughts out for us to share in.
Merry Christmas.
Love you Pat Layton! You make me smile. 🙂
