What you talkin’ ’bout?

“What happens if we crash G? Will we all die?”

“I think we are going to crash.” “What if a terrorist is on our plane “G”?

All words from the mouth of my 6 year old Granddaughter. 6 years old!! Fear starts gripping us at a young age. I know it did in my life.

My “G” heart couldn’t bare to see my precious Granddaughter afraid. I immediately began to replace my affirming words and thoughts with her fretful ones.

“Bella, we are not gong to crash, don’t be afraid. G is right here I softly soothed her as I wrapped my arms around her and whispered into her sweet smelling hair.” ‘This plane is very safe sweet Bella. We are going to see your Mommy and Daddy in just a little while. Trust G, this is going to be FUN!”

After she repeated her doubts about 10 times, we actually bowed and prayed followed by my instructions not to SAY those scary words again, but instead every time she felt those words rising up into there head and mouth–just to say “Thank you Lord for keeping us safe and getting us home!” I explained to Bella that when she said those words of faith instead of the scary words, she would be agreeing with Jesus and His protection over us. Her words would let Jesus know that she trusted Him!

Bella “got it”. For the next few minutes I could hear her whisper her trust over and over until the next thing I knew–she was deeply involved in a game on her Kindle 🙂 Completely at peace.

Oh my–that I would always practice what I preach!

The truth is, I have always hated to fly and have stepped onto hundreds upon hundreds of airplanes with the same thoughts in my mind. Over and over again God has talked me through a bumpy flight. Over and over again I have had to hear that little love talk straight from Jesus!

It’s funny how our thoughts and words change when WE are the protector!

I considered that truth as I soothed Bella. I thought of how sad it must make The Lord for me to let fear take the lead in my mind and mouth.

On the other hand, I have learned that fear is a reality of life. We all fear things—injury to our family, financial unknowns, rejection from those we love, dishonoring our faith, living a duplicitous life..we all fear things–but this thing I have learned—

There is a cure for fear. Not a cure for trouble mind you. God says “in this world you WILL have trouble, but FEAR NOT, I have overcome the world!”

God’s Word, God’s truth, God’s promises break down fear. The deal is–we have to KNOW God’s Word. We have to be able to tap into it when we need it to replace the lies of the enemy with the truth of God’s promises!!

The Bible says it this way–“Perfect love cast out fear.” (Pitch it away, Blast it apart)

  1. Fear can shake us up for sure. Over the years the verse that I hang onto and speak is Psalm 16:8

“I have set The Lord ever before me. Because He is at my right hand I will not be shaken!” That strong Word has kept me standing more times than I can count!

How blessed those G-babies are to have such a wonderful grandmother!
    Love you!

  2. Psalm 91 is my go to scripture when I am feeling fearful. I especially love verses 14-16,
    14 Because He has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him;
15 He will call upon Me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and
    honor him.
16 With a long life I will satisfy him and let him see My salvation! (exclamation mark mine!!)

I just love how He has provided ALL that we need in EVERY area of our lives!!! 🙂

    1. Elizabeth–From the day of my salvation (6/9/84) I have loved that Chapter of the Bible! It has so many promises that I need and depend upon! Thank you for sharing!!!
      blessings,

  3. I dont have a verse yet but my biggest fear is not spending enough time with God. Losing that personal connection with him! Not moving forward fast enough! Not knowing enough about him .

    1. Oh Donja–I would be so bold as to say that the desire you have–was PLANTED in you by God–the desire for time together, the promise of personal connection and the absolute MIRACLE of KNOWING HIM! I think the “moving fast” part is our common struggle. Lets choose to slow down and REST in HIM! Lest choose to make quiet, listening time with God a priority and watch Him turn our fears into faith!
      Blessings friend!

  4. Isaiah 54:17
“No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their vindication is from Me,” declares the LORD.

  5. Duet.31:6 Be strong and Courageous. Will be my go to. I don’t have Facebook but I have been enjoying the Unstuck posts and Im excited about the book release!!
