The Power of a Love Letter
I read a story recently about a “message in a bottle” discovery.
In 1999, a fisherman in New Zealand caught the surprise of a lifetime when he fished out an old glass, ginger beer bottle from the English Channel. Sealed inside was found a brief love note from a British soldier traveling to the front in WWI, September 9, 1914. The recipient of that whimsical, sweet gesture was his young wife, awaiting his safe arrival back in England. Sadly, he would note return, dying in battle just two days after pitching his love letter into the channel.
AHHHHH – sigh. How can someone not LOVE a story like that – It reflects the kind of emotion that makes one ache to the bone. After reading this story, my busy brain began to think about THAT kind of love – deep, abiding, unfailing. Is there any greater love???
Well, yes! The cosmic force of God’s blessed, redeeming love for us smashes the confines of our earthly understanding of love. He is Infinite, timeless, unbounded and His feelings for us, His sons and daughters, are quite literally, out of this world. Have you ever paused to consider how often God is thinking about you? Interesting question, isn’t it? In our mere terrestrial state, we cannot possibly fathom the answer – it’s too awesome!!
Every day, every moment God’s penning his love note to each of us. His love is bobbing up and down in our hearts and minds waiting for discovery, just like the glass bottle of the soldier so long ago.
That’s how much you mean to me. That’s how much I love you. I’d sell the whole world to get you back, trade the creation just for you (Isaiah 43:4).
AHHHHH – sigh.
Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. Is 43:1-3
WOW, WOW and more WOW!! Powerful words of love!
