The BETTER Things

I am very blessed to be surrounded by so women who reflect the love of Jesus in a variety of ways. Some have ministries; some serve in assisted living facilities, some teach sunday school (dot, dot, dot) and some WRITE. I want to introduce you to one very sweet friend who writes Bible Studies. I hope you will enjoy hearing about her newest study Hebrews, A Better Blend, visit her website and maybe even be the lucky visitor who wins a copy of Leah’s book right here rocking’ and reading’ on my cyber porch! Enjoy this guest Post by Leah Adams.

Right there it was on the kitchen counter. My opportunity to choose the good or the better. It was my choice, and I weighed it carefully. I liked both choices, really. And neither were inherently bad. But, clearly, one was better. Which would I choose?

The store-bought, plastic wrapped pecan pie, or the ice-cold bowl of rich, creamy homemade strawberry ice cream.  Although I adore pecan pie, this time it was the loser. The homemade ice cream won out as the better choice, and the moment it caressed my taste buds, I knew I had made the BETTER choice. Life is similar. Every day, sometimes many times a day, you and I are offered a choice between the good and the better.

Vacation at the beach or mountains

A date with Joe or Tom

The red dress or the purple one

Faithfulness or cheating in marriage

Black shoes or another pair of black shoes (yeah, you have to be a woman to understand this)

Job A or Job B

Serving Jesus or serving self

Choices. Choices. The tension created by choices has been around for thousands of years.

Eve had a choice to make: fruit or fasting; obedience or disobedience to God’s command.

To build an ark or not was the question before Noah.

King David could act like a king, and go off to war in the spring, or stay home and find himself with a mess that would forever scar and plague his family.

Zaccheus had to decide what was more important: his reputation (climbing that tree would make him look ridiculous) or seeing Jesus.

Even Jesus had to decide whether to obey the Father and go all the way to the cross for a bunch of stiff-necked, whining humans.

The writer of the book of Hebrews knew his readers, followers of Jesus, had a choice to make.  Under threat of persecution, would they return to the ways of Judaism and the Old Covenant, or would they follow hard after Jesus, the author of the New Covenant. The Old Covenant was a good thing, bringing an awareness of sin and disobedience to the heart of the follower. But the New Covenant….ah, it was the BETTER thing, bringing complete forgiveness and restoration to the heart of the worshipper. Jesus was able to clean up the sinner, make them brand new, and give a fresh start and a clean slate to any who asked.

The focus of my new Bible study, entitled HeBrews: A Better Blend, is the good versus the better. The old ways versus Jesus, the new and living Way. Each day of the study offers opportunities to examine how Jesus is the BETTER way, and to apply Jesus to every area of life.

It matters not the choice before us. Jesus offers us the BETTER way.

But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation….. Hebrews 6:9 (NKJV)

Do you know Jesus? Does He live in your heart today? Have you made the BETTER choice of Jesus? Today I offer you my Jesus AND the opportunity to win a copy of HeBrews: A Better Blend.

If you have never met Jesus, and made Him your very best friend and the Lord of your life, it would be my pleasure to introduce you to Him. All it takes is your willingness to admit that, on your own, you could never be good enough to measure up to God’s standard of perfect holiness. You agree with God that Jesus died on the cross to pay the debt you owe for your sin. Then, you simply ask Jesus to forgive you of your sin and disobedience, and come into your heart to live forever. And just like that, He will. And it will be done forever. You will be His, and no one can ever take Him from you, or you from Him. His Holy Spirit will take up residence in your heart, and you will have a Guide, a Comforter, and a Teacher living within you to help you through life. It’s really THAT easy. But you must choose the BETTER way. Will you? Have you?

I’d love to hear from you. Email me at point ministries@gmail.com  and let me know if you have chosen the BETTER way of Jesus.
