Summer: A Season of Rest!

Happy June friend!
Living in Florida in the Summer is NOT for sissies! I just read the 2017 hurricane predictions–oh my–not so great to read the words”expected to be busy”. The prediction for 11 to 17 “named” storms with as many as 9 becoming hurricanes. Like I said, not for sissies.
“STORMS” are inevitable, right. It is all in how we PREPARE for them that helps us to NAVIGATE them and determines our personal outcome.
Regardless of the coming storms, named or not, God has promised to never leave us or forsake us. He promises that when we take our shelter under HIS COVERING, we can REST in knowing that he has it al under control.
REST is the basic purpose of my monthly newsletter A REFRESHING PAUSE and has been the theme of my Bible study and quiet time all year. Rest is not an easy thing for me–WORK is my love language! Serving, doing, managing and generally moving and shaking is my normal M.O.
How about you?
Do you know how to REST? To REALLY REST?
I have read umpteen (is that a word?) books since the beginning of the year.  As I have just completed leading my REST QUEST retreat. I wanted to share one of my favorites with you!
This 40 Day Devotional, Whispers of Rest, by Bonnie Gray has captured my heart. So much that I want to give one away to one of YOU!
All you have to do for your chance to win is leave a comment telling me your favorite way to REST and be entered to win!!
Lastly, I would love to have you join my Summer Bible Study. Send me an email at patlayton@mac.com to join!
I am always praying for my virtual friends and thankful for your connection and support. I hope to hear from you!
Pat

  3. Hi Pat! First, I am thankful for your serving heart! You are a blessing to us. I am a native Floridian who is all too familiar with tropical storm/hurricane life. Oddly enough, I rest quite a bit during the hours (or days!) of a power outage – only bc you’re kind of forced to lol I definitely have trouble “resting” – as in putting my feet up to relax and calming my mind. However, I would say that I am rejuvenated, or recharged rather, when I am alone with the Lord in worship. When I turn up the praise music and sing my heart out driving or in the shower. One would say driving isn’t exactly a relaxing thing in rush hour traffic, but I’ve learned to channel the long ride into a worship experience. I have my playlists on Spotify and my OnePlace app! I find my most relaxing -best rest- is found when I am fully submerged in His presence, no matter where I am. Oh, sleeping well at night is a huge part of resting for me. I’m good for no one if I don’t sleep!
