On the Third Day of Christmas

My TRUE LOVE gave to me…..Time.

There is a certain birthday, it is different for each person, when all of the sudden–TIME–begins to be almost visible as it rushes by without paying a single bit of attention to you. It just doesn’t care that you are not ready for your children to leave for college and their bedroom is silent, neat and untouched. It just doesn’t care that you are looking at the BACK of your daughter all draped in white lace, instead of holding her little face in your hands after she has painted it with red nail polish. It just doesn’t care that you are placing a rose on your Daddy’s coffin when you were supposed to go fishing next weekend. It just doesn’t care that you would rather leave that towel wrapped around your head after a shower because it lifts everything up that wants to go down! Right??!!!

Time is oblivious to our needs. It just keeps moving on.

However—-

You KNEW there had to be one didn’t you? You WANTED there to be a However and there is.

The “However” is the good news that Jesus, as the Father, created TIME and had a plan for it from the very beginning.

Genesis 1:14

Then God said, “Let there be lights in the open space of the heavens to divide day from night. Let them tell the days and years and times of the year.

I have spent most of my life trying to outrun time. This year–God has stopped me in my personal time agenda to show me that HE ALONE determines the time for this and the time for that. He is teaching me (in what probably looks from heaven a lot like a bull in a bull pen with a rider flying up and down) to be still. To stop. To listen. To wait.

Oh how I hate to wait.

This morning, in my prayer chair. I was reminded of the GIFT OF TIME through these words.

Ecclesiastes 3 [Full Chapter]

[ A Time for Everything ] There is a special time for everything. There is a time for everything that happens under heaven. There is a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pick what is planted. There is a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up. ..

John 2:4

Jesus said to her, “Woman, what is that to you and to Me. It is not time for Me to work yet.”

John 4:23

The time is coming, yes, it is here now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father wants that kind of worshipers.

John 5:17

Jesus said to them, “My Father is still working all the time so I am working also.”

John 7:6

Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come. But any time is good for you.

Thank you Lord, that your timing is always good, your timing is always right, your timing IS A GIFT! Every moment is a gift, even those moments that are filled with unknowns and regrets. Help us to embrace them as a gift. Help us to wait, to be still, to listen for your still small voice in this season of rush. Amen.

I would love to hear your thoughts about TIME!

Tomorrow will be the TIME when I share my special December Give-Away!

In His Time,

Pat

  4. Time is such an elusive thing. When I was small it seemed like time was so slow. It took FOREVER for special events to come. Now, I can’t seem to slow it down. Time brings so many changes with it. Some good; some not so good. I studied 2 Peter recently and was taken with the thought that with God one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like a day. I believe God exists outside time as we know it. His patience is great and I am so thankful for that. Suzanne, I love your thinking on God redeeming our ‘lost’ time. Now that is encouraging. Just some thoughts. Time to put this computer to bed. ) Kristi

  5. In Children of the Day, Beth Moore said we are moving forward in time…looking toward the return of Jesus & eternity in Heaven. It’s a stopwatch counting forward rather than a timer counting down. Look forward! Jesus is coming soon!

  6. Love love love. This just couldn’t be more true. You made me cringe at daughter in dress and coffin!! Then made me smile with peace and joy. So so good. Thanks for sharing!! Love ya!

    1. Those moments when you need life to stop and it just doesn’t!!! But then you rest in Jesus carrying you through when time is still passing, but your heart hit the floor and hasn’t caught back up! They are monumental moments and to see Jesus carry you. It really is amazing. I truly do love this post, Pat! I don’t want to think about the little girl that was painting her nails now getting ready to walk down the aisle. Ahhhh! Lol beautiful moments that tug at the heart strings for sure!!!!

      1. I can see you reading the Daddy part–it has been 13 years for me and the picture still lingers 🙂

  7. Awesome words. I never seemed to have enough time. Till one day God threw me down on the floor and said….”Now that I have your attention, stay there till I tell you it TIME to get up.I have some things to tell you.” Best time I ever had.
