On the 4th day of Christmas my TRUE LOVE gave to me… the hum of a drum?
Do you remember the story of the Little Drummer Boy? Perhaps you’ve even seen the cartoon or listened to the melody – pa rum pum pum pum.
While this sweet story has no Biblical basis that I can determine, it still remains a lovely, darling story about a young orphan boy that happens upon Mary, Joseph and the newborn Christ the King. With his loyal animal friends in tow, the little drummer boy approaches the Baby Jesus with only his drum to recommend him. What gift does a lonely, poor boy give “to fit a King” the lyrics explain.
The young boy humbly asks to “play for Him,” the Baby Jesus – a modest offering given in a pure and genuine way, to celebrate God’s gift to our world. I just get chills as I tap my fingers to the melody and sentiment of that fictional moment. I think of all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season – shopping, wrapping, decorating, cooking, party planning – and I’m reminded of the simplicity of the Little Drummer Boy story – stripping away the trappings of the holiday season to be reminded of what the season is REALLY all about – Christ! A celebration, an awakening of our hearts anew to the birth of our Savior; the grace in His love for us, His sons and daughters.
I have been praying about what I might do that is a “special offering” for the readers who have lovingly followed me and supported me this year and in years past. You have blessed me more than I can ever express!
To that point, would you allow me this moment to play my “drum” for YOU?? I want to celebrate YOU!!
