6 Steps to Peace with the Past

Good Morning Summer Sizzle Study friends.

I pray that you have had some degree of success in following along in this easy living summer Born to Bloom study of Psalm 139.

As for me, the living has NOT been easy. I have been “BOUND SECURELY IN THE BUNDLE” (1 Samuel 25:29) of this Chapter of the Bible. You see the Born to Bloom gift book series is  designed to be a light and easy study.

My deepest desire is that you are enjoying it from that perspective.

However, as for me, I am attempting to write a chapter book and partnering study/workbook using these 24 verses. Every day I question whether or not I am really a writer or just a writer “wanna-be”. I barely know anyone who is NOT a writer wanna-be.

Many of you know of the woman’s conference God unfolded in my heart a few years back called “Imagine Me…Set Free”. My next event will be held in Texas on October 18th and 19th if you would like to join us. I promise, you WILL love it and it WILL make a difference in your life! I have shared this conference 12 times now.

Since the very first conference God has placed a dream in my heart to write a book/workbook that will help women continue the journey started on those weekends.I started on that goal at the beginning of the year but have set aside the Summer months to complete the books.

Oh my. It just feels like the more I learn, the more I don’t know. Have you ever felt that way?

Last week we worked through Psalm 139:9-12.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn; if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there you hand will guide me; your right hand will hold me fast.

If I say, surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me; even the darkness is not dark to you, the night will shine like the day for darkness is light to you.

In my book and conference I call this section “Peace with the Past”.

I have always considered that area of Bible study and ministry, my “sweet spot”.

In my Lifeway study Surrendering the Secret, I help women process what may have been the most painful and shameful place of their past. We take a step by step journey, most of which I share in Imagine Me…Set Free, that helps them to chip away at a bolder sized burden that for many women has been sitting on their shoulders for 20-30 even 40 years.

I hope you encountered some sweet moments with Jesus as you set some time aside to consider God’s All Seeing Ey and Inescapable Presence in you life.

God wants you to embrace and enjoy COMPLETE healing and restoration from any places of darkness, shame or loss from your past.

I thought I would leave you today with 5 SIMPLIFIED steps to healing and restoration that I have FRESHLY encountered this past week as I have been writing, writing, writing.

They are found in another Psalm. Psalm 51.

Of all that has transpired in the life of David, this may be his lowest point. The moment when he is face to face with the Holy Spirit and confronted with his sin of adultery. David acts out before our very eyes God’s plan for healing and redemption.

Psalm 51

Step 1  (verses 1-6)

Conviction by the Holy Spirit and repentance.

Have you taken the time to speak out your sin and/or loss out loud to God? Have you actually confessed and acknowledged your pain before a might and Holy God? He sees anyway, we remembered that this past week.

Step 2 (verse 7)

Accept God’s forgiveness–once and for ever!– through the Blood of Jesus.

Matt: 26:28; Hebrews 1:3, 9:12, 10:14; John 13:10; Ephesians 5:25-26

Step 3 (verse 7-10)

Allow God to work His cleansing Blood into your heart through His Word of truth. Claim the scriptures and promises He has laid out for you.

John 13:4-10; Ephesians 5:26; 1 John 1:9

Step 4 (verse 11-12)

Be filled with the Holy Spirit reflected by the fruit of Joy! Peace! Power and Anticipation!!

John 14:16; Ephesians 4:30

Step 5 (verse 13)

Allow God to uncover your calling.

Move past/let go of shame and low self esteem to “God Esteem” and let God show you your passion/His calling for you. We are looking this week at Psalm 139:13-16. you will see that God has a PLAN FOR YOU!!! use this week to allow God to shine His light on your life right now!

Step 6 (verse verses 15-19)

Worship! Praise! Celebrate!! TELL SOMEONE!

Speak of God’s goodness to everyone you see! Share the word of your testimony! Overflow onto those God puts in your path this week!

Start with ME and the friends who are following this study!

  1. Pat,
I have been through and become very involved in post-abortion ministries. I love that our mighty God sets us free with His loving forgiveness! I too had been harboring this huge burden of guilt for almost 30 years, fearing I was hell-bound regardless of church status. Through a post-abortion bible study, the scales fell from my eyes and I knew I was was forgiven!

About 3 weeks ago I found out my father had been molesting one of my aunts (my mother’s sister). Since I have issues about intimate relations, even with my husband of 25 years, I don’t know if it is due to a physical and emotional previous relationship or repressed memories as a child. Although I feel like a foundation of my life has fallen away from me, I am trying to make sense of things. Odd activity and photos are starting to make sense.

I feel that God has cushioned this impact for me and I haven’t any anger toward Him at all. We are fallen and it is how we deal with it and glorify God that is our testimony. I pray more will be revealed to me as I study His word.

Thank you for bringing this all out to the world as you have done!

    Sincerely,
    Beth
