10 Things I Prayed for My Husband Today

Sorry it took me so long Honey 🙂

If not for God, Honey and I would never have made it through 35 Years of marriage-The first 7 years were HELL lived out through us. We both came to marriage as 2 Selfish, Fearful, Bound, Sinful, Lost people.

God grabbed hold of my falling-off-a-cliff life on 6-9-84. After that He immediately gripped the hearts on #1 son, then #2 son, then Honey, all within the next 6 months! By Christmas of 1984 we all belonged to HIM!

Praise His Omnipotent Name. He knew that He had a plan for this family. A plan to reflect His grace, His goodness, His never ending love. We are working that out day by day.

God has held our marriage together through the healing of our past including the greatest heartbreak of all, the loss of a child through abortion; parenting 3 children; 2 adoptions; 2 weddings; 5 grand babies; the loss of parents and friends; 25 years of Full Time Para-Church Ministry; 5 homes; his love for having the AC on high and mine for liking it very low; his organizational skills and my sanquine scatteredness…Dot, Dot, Dot…..

I have kept a prayer journal since the 6/9/84 day of my salvation and ALWAYS have had a list of prayers going on for my Honey.

This one, taken from a prayer letter by Sylvia Gunter, covers him from Head to Toe!!

Praying For Your Husband

These Scripture-based prayers will challenge wives and help you in your most important duty as a wife, that is, praying diligently for your husband. (Mothers, pray for your sons and the other men in your life using this prayer. Single women, pray for your husband-to-be.) Plead for God’s mercy upon him; give thanks for all God will do for him (1 Tim 2:1). Using the Word of God, pray for him from the top of his head to the soles of his feet. Present every part of his body to God.

His Head
The head of every man is Christ. O Lord, may You really be the head of my husband and help me allow him to be the head of our home. Thank You, God, for being head over all and for your perfect plan for our home.

His Mind
Lord, cause my husband to know Christ with real certainty and clear understanding. Your plan for him is Christ Himself, and in Him are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Col 2:2-3). May he not be carnally minded which is death but spiritually minded which is life and peace (Rom 8:6). Bring into captivity every thought to obey Christ (2 Cor 10:5). Open his mind to understand the Scriptures (Luke 24:45). I pray that he will not be conformed to this world but be transformed by renewing his mind in Your Word, so that he may experience Your good, acceptable and perfect will (Rom 12:2).

His Eyes
Open his eyes, Lord, that he may see from Your perspective (2 Kings 6:17). May he keep his eyes alert for spiritual danger, stand true to you, and be strong (1 Cor 16:13). Help him to watch out for the snares of Satan (1 Peter 5:8). Make him see clearly the difference between right and wrong and to be inwardly clean so that no one can find fault in him (Phil 1:10). Give him wisdom to understand who Christ is and all that He did for him. Flood his heart with Your light (Eph 1:17-18).

His Ears
Dear Father, I pray that my husband will hear Your words with His heart, not just his mind (Ps 78:1). Cause him to hear Your voice so that You can instruct him (Deu 4:36). Open his ears and give him wisdom (Job 33:14-1 7). When You speak to him, I pray that he will listen and not resist or turn away (Isa 50:5).

His Nose
To those who know Christ and those who don’t, may my husband be a refreshing fragrance of Christ, a life-giving perfume (2 Cor 2:15).

His Mouth
Set a watch, O Lord, over his mouth (Ps 141:3). Help him to make the most of his opportunities to tell others about victory in Jesus and to be wise in all his contacts. Let his conversation be gracious and wise (Col 4:3-6). Whatever he does or says, let it be as a representative of the Lord Jesus (Col 3:17). Help him not to complain or argue (Phil 2:14). Sweeten the words of his lips to say only what is good and helpful and what will bless others (Eph 4:29). Let the words of his mouth and the meditation of his heart be acceptable to You, O Lord (Ps 19:14).

His Heart
Dear Father, enable my husband to obey Your command to love You with all his heart and soul and might (Deu 6:5). Let his heart be filled with You alone to make him pure and true (James 4:8).

Create in him a clean heart filled with clean thoughts and right desires (Ps 51:10). Warn him to not harden his heart (Ps 95:8). You desire to make his heart soft (Job 23:16). Help him to keep his heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life (Pro 4:23). May he be transformed in his heart in the fear of the Lord every day.

Cause him to trust in You with all his heart and lean not unto his own understanding (Pro 3:5). I pray that he will let the peace of God rule in his heart (Col 3:15). I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in his heart, as he trusts You more fully. (Eph 3:17-19).

His Arms
Lord, be His arm every morning and His salvation in the time of trouble (Isa 33:2). Lord. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose hope is the Lord (Jer 17:5, 7).

His Hands
I pray that he will continue to bless You as he lifts his hands to You in prayer (Ps 63:4). You want men everywhere to pray with holy hands lifted to You, free from sin, anger, and resentment (1 Tim 2:8).

His Legs
Help my husband walk by faith and not by sight, as he looks to you (2 Cor 5:7). May he use every piece of Your armor to resist the enemy, so that he will stand firm (Eph 6:13). Help him lay aside every weight and the sins that trip him up, so he can run with patience the race that You have set before him (Heb 12:1). Help us to walk together in the light of Jesus, so we can have true fellowship of spirit with each other (1 John 1:7).

His Feet
Thank You, Lord, for setting his feet on a firm path as he walks with You (Ps 40:2). Hold his feet to Your path (Ps 66:9). The steps of a good man are directed by You. (Ps 37:23). Thank You for giving him power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19).

A Prayer For Our Marriage
I pray that You will enable us to honor You by submitting to each other (Eph 5:2 1). Help us to live in complete harmony with the attitude of Christ (Rom 15:5). May we live happily in Your love through all the days of life (Ecc 9:9). May he be faithful and true to me, rejoicing in the wife of his youth. May my love alone fill him with delight (Pro 5:15,18,19). May he realize that a good wife is worth more than precious gems. Let him know that he can put his trust in me and I am dedicated to helping him all my days (Pro 31:10-12).

I will keep on rejoicing in You, for I know that as I pray for my husband, and the Holy Spirit helps him, everything works for our good and Your glory (Phil 1:19, Rom 8:28-29). Glory be to You, God, who by Your mighty power at work in my husband is able to do far more than I could ask or dream of or hope for. In Jesus’ name, amen.
