Keeping the Main Thing, THE Main Thing!

I received this precious email from a member of my National Leadership Team for Surrendering the Secret. It was so precious, I asked her for permission to share with you. Enjoy 🙂

December 2013

Dear Friends,

I enjoy cooking and baking, and sharing the finished creations with others. I like spending time in my kitchen. Without question, Christmas cookie baking is a must! At the same time, there is decorating, shopping, parties, and routine tasks, like cleaning and laundry, which also demand a slice of my time.

Recently I invited two of my little grandsons, ages 4 and 2, to spend a day with Grandma Carol so that my daughter could get some much needed rest. As we “rough housed”, like boys love to doJ, I found myself feeling a bit anxious as I contemplated all that I wasn’t getting done. I fought to relax and enjoy the moment, something God has been teaching me this past year.

Reminds me of a story my friend shared with me. Nancy was hustling breathlessly, preparing her home for some guests. She tended frantically to last minute details so that all would be perfect for her special visitors. Ding dong! The door bell rang. Ignoring the interruption since it was too early for the guests’ arrival, she continued to scurry about. Ding dong!!! “Oh, WHO could be bothering me at such an important time?”

Begrudgingly she opened the door, and saw no one, until she looked down. There stood her little son. “What in the world are you doing ringing the bell, disturbing Mommy when you know that I am busy making lunch for our guests?” “I just wanted to give you these flowers for the table, Mommy,” was his reply. Nancy felt tears sting her eyes, knelt down and apologized to her precious son for her impatience.

“This is how God showed His love for us: God sent His only Son into the world so we might live through Him. This is the kind of love that we are talking about – not that we once upon a time loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God.” 1 John 4:9, 10 The Message

Prayer: Papa God, forgive me for the many times I miss hearing your tender voice speaking, “Carol, I love you. Do you have a few more minutes to sit with me? The dishes will wait. The dirty clothes will get washed. My time with you is sweeter than the next batch of cookies waiting to be baked. I have so much to share with you.”

Embrace the wonder of this most precious Gift. Enjoy time with Him. He won’t mind you sipping a cup of coffee and eating cookies while you chat.

Have a blessed Christmas!

Love,

Carol

and Love, Pat 🙂
