He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting. Psalm 104:19 ESV
I asked Siri what causes Fall but she started tell me why OLD PEOPLE “fall”. LOL
Since I am far too close the the definition of “old people” and for the sake of my mood, I decided to try Wikipedia.
Here is what I found.
Dates: The autumnal equinox is the beginning of “astronomical autumn,” which ends with the start of winter. In the Northern Hemisphere, that is from around September 22 to about December 22, though it varies from year to year, according to the NOAA.
* to descend freely by the force of gravity: move downward, typically rapidly and freely without control, from a higher to a lower level.
* to hang freely: to drop oneself to a lower position, drop, descend, come down, go down; plummet, plunge, sink, dive, tumble; cascade
* to become lower in degree or level
* to drop in pitch or volume
* to leave an erect position suddenly and involuntarily, a sudden onset or arrival as if by dropping
This is the one that captured my heart:
*to throw oneself down, typically in order to worship or implore someone.
I started a brand new journal last week. I always start my journals by decorating the cover with the “theme” I feel God has placed on my heart. I use magazine cut outs, verses of scripture and two sided sticky tape to set the tone for my next season of journaling. Most of my journals (I have 34 years worth under my bed) last about 3 months so starting with a “season” change is a fairly common event for me.
The thing I realized as I started to decorate the cover of this new journal is the last few “seasons” of my life, in the natural, have not really changed much in the spiritual. I shared some of my thoughts in that post about my current spiritual season.
The truth is, I have realized that I have kind of been living in somewhat of a spiritual “Winter” for possibly as long as 4 years!! Granted, there have been slips in and out throughout those years but predominantly, I have been in a heart space of “waiting”, a sign of Winter.
Lately, I have sensed a transition.
As would be expected in my case, rather than moving ahead towards SPRING, bloom and grow…I feel that I am FALLING backwards. I am stepping BACK from the spiritual season of Winter to the spiritual season of FALL and that is OK!
It is God’s job to determine my season. It is my job to quietly listen and follow His lead.
Spiritual Fall—just as it is defined in the natural, is a time for allowing dead things to go to make room for new things to bloom.
How about you–do you sense “FALL” in your INSIDE life as much as your OUTSIDE life?
In my October newsletter A Refreshing Pause (sign up above) I had fun sharing some ABC’s of Fall.
Here are a few links from that column to help you take hold of that outside Fall to enjoy while your inside world is on it’s now journey!
Enjoy Fall Y’all”!
