FREE Book! The Passionate Mom!

I stopped by my sweet friend Susan’s house today to pick up my AUTOGRAPHED give-away copies of her new book.

This your last chance to chime in for a FREE BOOK (from ME) for Mother’s Day, which I might add, is EVERYDAY!!!

The Passionate Mom Book from Family First on Vimeo.

I am a Passionate Mom!

I have been passionate about my children every day since I first smelled each one! Yep, that’s what started it for me! That YUMMY baby smell.

I can still remember the newborn smell of every one of my children.

My firstborn, Tim, came into my life when I was just a teenager. We grew up together. We are STILL growing up together Tim and me. That’s how we roll!!

“In those days” (as someone really old would say) Mommy’s, even when they were babies themselves, were all alone in the labor room and all alone in the delivery room and all alone when they saw their babies for the first time. I remember the moment I first placed my eyes and my hands on Tim. That moment changed my life forever. It was the moment I went from taking care of me to taking care of us. There has never been a moment since that day, when I have been unaware of the claim that Tim staked in my heart for him alone. We spent the first 3 years of Tim’s life, just him and me. He was my whole world.

The second time I became a Mom, my life was very different. I was older and wiser but felt no more “capable or worthy” to be a mother than when Tim was born.

My Andy, was a big 8 and 1/2 pound boy, who stole our hearts, mine, his Dads and his BIG brother Tim. This time, his Dad carried him over to my bedside and tenderly lowered him to my lips for my first smell and kiss. My seal of ownership. NO OTHER WOMAN would ever be called Andy’s Mom. Oh my, I remember that newborn smell.  I remember sobbing all over him. I remember the room and the people all around us. The truth is, my life was a bit of a hot mess when Andy was born, you can read that story here. I had been working so hard to try to figure out who I was and where my value was. Andy brought a change into our lives. I didn’t know it at the time but Andy’s life would usher in our familys’ new life in Christ.

A friend of mine was recently asked in an interview, if she could change the world, what would she do. If anyone ever asked me that, which they have not, my answer would be this one:

It would CHANGE THE WORLD if every child could grow up in a healthy God centered home.

Wouldn’t it be AWESOME if every child was born to a healthy (mentally, spiritually and physically) Mommy and Daddy.

Working at a crisis pregnancy center has shown me that is NOT the case. We give birth as HUMANS who are on a journey. We have faults, we have weaknesses, we have loss, we have pain and it happens WHILE we are being Moms and Dads.

My last fresh newborn smell was even more radical than the first two, this time God SURPRISED us. This time our “newborn”, our Julianna, was one month old before my face presses up against her TINY cheeks. This time I was settled into my life in Christ; my calling; my personal place of grace. This time, God made me a Mom through adoption. Here is her story:

Being a Mom is WITHOUT QUESTION, the most precious and priceless gift I have ever been given. I am PASSIONATE about my children and now I have staked a claim upon my daughters by marriage, Kim and Bethany and my Grandchildren–AJ, Jacob, Mikala, Kai and Bella (Now THAT”S a whole ‘nother blog!)

My beautiful friend Susan Merrill has written this brand new book about the passion of motherhood. Oh my. This precious friend has captured some of the sweetest words I have ever read to lasso the moon of mommy hood! I truly feel that her book will become a best seller. I know I’ll be buying one for all the Mom’s I know and love!

I am giving away 5 signed copies of her book over the next few weeks that lead up to her BIG LAUNCH on April 16th and she will be guest posting here on my blog soon.

Share in the comments HOW MANY CHILDREN you have (by birth, adoption or calling!) and be registered to win one of my give-away books!

Maybe NEXT my friend Susan will write about the PASSIONATE GRANDMA!!

Watch out world :)

THIS, is ALL ABOUT YOU!

Over the past few days I have DONE LIFE with some very precious people.

People who need HOPE.

People who need to be reminded that God is for them and wants to be INVITED to take hold of their lives.

People who feel like the heaviness of the world is more than they can bear.

If that is you today, I want to share the prayer I prayed this morning and to remind you that YOU are on God’s Heart today.

He is for you.

He loves you.

When we REALLY surrender our lives to Him, not just lip service and words but completely SURRENDER. We do what He says to do in His Word.

We KNOW GOD.

We KNOW His Word.

I challenge you in love friend, IF YOU DON”T KNOW WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT YOUR SITUATION; YOUR LIFE…You don’t KNOW God.

This is my prayer this morning. This is an example of HOW TO PRAY through your situation. Pray what GOD SAYS!

This prayer is from Psalm 91.

Lord, I praise You that I dwell today in the secret place of your indescribable love and protection. I am secure and fixed under YOUR shadow. I will keep my heart and mouth declaring today that YOU are my strength and my refuge, my mighty fortress, MY God in whom I place my hope and trust. I lean on you. I rely on you. I place my life into your faithful hands.

I have confidence Lord, that you will deliver me from any evil that comes my way today. You will deliver me from harm and from sickness and disease.

You will cover me with your shadow. You are faithful Lord and I know that I am safe with you.

Your faithfulness and your truth are a shield for me.

I will not be afraid Lord, of any terror of the night, nor of the evil plots of the wicked that show up in the daylight. I will not be afraid of the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the destruction and sudden death that looms in the midday. A thousand may fall at my side, ten thousand at my right hand, but it shall not come near me because I am surrounded by you. I will only be a spectator whose soul and eternal security is inaccessible in the secret place of the most high. I will watch when my enemy gets his reward.

I have made You Lord, my refuge. I have made THE MOST HIGH, my dwelling place.

You will give your angels charge over me to accompany and defend and preserve me in all of my ways of obedience and service. Your angels will hold me up and keep me from harm today.

Because I have set my love upon You , You will deliver me. You will set me on high because I know and understand Your NAME!

I KNOW YOU Lord, and YOU know me. I know you are merciful, kind and loving. I know you will never leave me or forsake me. I know that when I call upon your name, YOU WILL ANSWER ME! You will be with me in trouble. You will deliver me and honor me. With a long life, You will satisfy me and show me Your salvation!

Psalm 91.

God is ALL ABOUT YOU.

AMEN!!

I am praying for you today.

What Do You Fear?

But I will show you whom you should fear……

Luke 12:5

I was amazed to discover how many scriptures are in the Bible about fear. HUNDREDS in the NIV alone. As God has put this topic on my heart and mind over the past few weeks I have seen more than ever how much the Lord has to say about this BONDAGE of body, mind and spirit. Fear does in fact, take hold of all three. Fear captures us. Fear traps us. Fear steals God’s blessings from us. Fear gives the devil a big fat playground! Take some time today to do this for your self. Research the word FEAR in your dictionary and concordance and follow the path the Bible provides to see it for what it is. Dig up some truth about how God feels about FEAR.

The scripture above tells us that Jesus says HE alone will tell us whom to fear. What does He say?

I have battled fear all of my life.

When I was a little girl I cried myself to sleep most every single night. Even though I slept in a room filled with sisters, I was terrified of the dark. Today, as a big girl, and with all of my trust and love of Jesus, I still do not like to be in complete darkness and often wake in the night to go check door locks. Fear of the dark is not my only confession. Another fear I have constantly battled is fear of flying in airplanes. I have always hated flying so much that when I first surrendered my life to the Lord close to 30 years ago, I can remember thinking and even saying out loud, Lord, I will do anything for you but PLEASE never ask me to speak in public or fly on airplanes, I’ll do ANYTHING BUT THAT!!

Insert big God grin right here :)

There have been some very specific times in my life when I was so deathly afraid that years later I can still remember the weakness in my body during those seasons–like when my oldest son broke his neck in a diving accident; the days upon days driving back and forth from the hospital when our daughter Julianna lay in NICU at 1 pound; being out of town at a speaking engagement while my husband was taken by ambulance to a hospital with what they thought was a heart attack.

LIFE can be VERY scary.

Years ago as I began to sift God’s WORD into my life and fill myself with HIS teaching, I heard a sermon called “Do it Afraid” by Joyce Meyer. You know, our minds are RENEWED only through God’s Word–reading it, hearing it, trusting it. That message changed my life and I made a choice at that moment to face my fears and fill myself with God’s promises. I decided right then that I would NOT let the devil steal a single thing from me that God has for my life.

I want it all.

I made a decision to step into everything I possibly could gripping trust and leaning on HIM!

God called me MANY years back to start speaking in public (imagine that!) and sharing my deepest secrets no less. I was petrified but I did it anyway. I am still often petrified when I stand up to speak but God has been faithful to use the word of my testimony over and over again. (Revelation 12:11)

Just a few years ago, He called me into new territory and started plopping me on airplanes. OMG. I can not tell you how many times I have sat on an airplane with tears running down my face in surrender. One of those times I was flying to a connecting flight on a small plane with the Lifeway team. Beth MooreTravis Cottrell and their entire SPIRIT FILLED WORSHIP TEAM sat just a few seats behind me and that still didn’t help. Have you ever done that on a flight, tell the truth!! One of my attempts to overcome my fear of flying would be to tell myself–God would NEVER let this plane crash with THEM on here!! :)

On that flight I don’t know which I was MORE afraid of, flying or those Godly people knowing that I was crying!!

I have since learned that God loves me just as much as anybody and THAT is a life changing revelation!!

A few weeks ago I LIVED THROUGH a flight that I honestly thought might be my last. It might have been but I tell you this, if it had been, the WORDS in my mouth would have been Psalm 139:16 “ALL THE DAYS ORDAINED FOR ME where written in your book before one of them came to be.”

God’s Word sets us free. He turns my fears into surrender and trust. Only Him.

What do you fear my friend?

If you were NOT afraid, how might God use you differently? What blessings could you be missing? What experiences might He have for you that you refuse?

Spend some time considering your fears today, journal them and replace every fear with a promise from His Word.

If you do not know what God says about your fears you will be a prisoner of them forever.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Is 41:10

Rescuing a Rat

One little “happy place” in life for me is to snuggle under my bed covers and read a book while the rain twinkles on the window. Somehow that soft sounds makes all things right with the world.

NOT SO MUCH when I am startled out of bed at 2 am by thunder and lightning that seems to be shooting at my bed and rain that is pelting the glass as if to break through at any moment. That is what happened night before last. Our whole house woke up thinking it was another one of those pesky Florida hurricanes. It was not, but it sure made our streets look like rivers.

Soon after I woke up my middle son called and began to tell me about a daring animal rescue his family had made after the storm.

A tiny little critter was discovered floating on the sidewalk in front of their home on the verge of death by drowning.

Oh my!

My son and Daughter-in-love and all the Grand “G’s” went to work to rescue the little critter, thinking it might be a baby kitty or a squirrel.

They wrapped it in a warm towel, lovingly nurtured it and whispered encouraging words of life over it’s wrecked little body.

As all of that loving care began to take hold, the little critter began to BLOOM :)

Oh goodie.

I wonder, had they known this was a RAT and not a Squirrel or a Kitty, would they have worked so hard to rescue that critter?

This past week, I spoke at a ministry event in Texas where a beautiful young woman shared her RESCUE story with me. Basically, when she went to the crisis pregnancy center in her community she was in critical condition. She had been beaten up and abandoned by her unborn child’s father. She had nothing but the clothes on her back and they were rags.

The team at this center brought her inside; wrapped her up tight with blankets AND LOVE and spent the next YEAR helping her get her life in order. She was a gorgeous example of what grace and love can do when it looks beyond the obvious and sees the possibilities.

THAT is what we do EVERY DAY at Life Impact Network in Tampa. Every day we RESCUE those being led away to slaughter as God instructs us to do in Proverbs 24:11.

ONE DAY each year, we have a Walk for Life to raise money to do what we do.

Rescue women who are faced with an unplanned pregnancy.

Restore women and men who have bought the lie of abortion.

Revelation 12:11—Release testimonies of the goodness of God and HIS REDEEMING RESCUE OF RATS!! (Read about mine here)

This Saturday, I am going to Walk for Life. I would be so honored by your financial gift to help us RESCUE more women and men who may feel like Rats but God sees as RADIANT!!

Here is my Walk for Life Page.

Everyone who makes a pledge of $25 or more will get a free book from me!!

Have you ever BEEN or RESCUED a RAT??

Chosen

You did not choose me, but I CHOSE YOU and APPOINTED YOU to go and bear fruit-fruit that will last.

John 15:16

Take a look at some Commentaries I found on these verses and use them for your own study this week.

Chosen–The pronoun is emphatic: “It was not ye that chose me.”

Ordained (ἔθηκα). Rev., appointed is better, because it divests the word of its conventional meaning. Ordain is from the Latin ordinare, and means to set in order. Thus, Robert of Gloucester’s “Chronicle:” “He began to ordain his folk,” i.e., set his people in order. Hakluyt, “Voyages:” “He ordained a boat made of one tree.” The Greek verb means to set, put, or place. Hence of appointing one to service. See 1 Tim. 1:12. Wyc., Matt. 24:47: “Upon all his goods he shall ordain him.”

Should go (ὑπάγητε). Withdraw from His personal society and go out into the world.

That whatsoever, etc. (ἵνα). Co-ordinated with the preceding ἵνα, that, as marking another result of their choice and appointment by Christ. He has appointed them that they should bring forth fruit, and that they should obtain such answers to their prayer as would make them fruitful.

 Here is another one:
ELECTION: their election to their apostleship (ch.6:70): I have chosen you twelve. It did not begin on their side: You have not chosen me, but I first chose you. Why were they admitted to such an intimacy with him, employed in such an embassy for him, and endued with such powerfrom on high? It was not owing to their wisdom and goodness in choosing him for their Master, but to his favour and grace in choosing them for his disciples. It is fit that Christ should have the choosing of his own ministers; still he does it by his providence and Spirit. Though ministers make that holy calling their own choice, Christ’s choice is prior to theirs and directs and determines it. Of all that are chosen to grace and glory it may be said, They have not chosen Christ, but he had chosen them, Deu. 7:7, 8.

ORDINATIONI have ordained you; hetheµka hymas“I have put you into the ministry (1 Tim. 1:12), put you into commission.’ ’ By this it appeared that he took them for his friends when he crowned their heads with such an honour, and filled their hands with such a trust. It was a mighty confidence he reposed in them, when he made them his ambassadors to negotiate the affairs of his kingdom in this lower world, and the prime ministers of state in the administration of it. The treasure of the gospel was committed to them, First, That it might be propagated: that you should go, hina hymeis hypageµte“that you should go as under a yoke or burden, for the ministry is a work, and you that go about it must resolve to undergo a great deal; that you may go from place to place all the world over, and bring forth fruit.’ ’ They were ordained, not to sit still, but to go about, to be diligent in their work, and to lay out themselves unweariedly in doing good. They were ordained, not to beat the air, but to be instrumental in God’s hand for the bringing of nations into obedience to Christ, Rom. 1:13. Note, Those whom Christ ordains should and shall be fruitful; should labour, and shall not labour in vain. Secondly, That it might be perpetuated; that the fruit may remain, that the good effect of their labours may continue in the world from generation to generation, to the end of time. The church of Christ was not to be a short-lived thing, as many of the sects of the philosophers, that were a nine days’ wonder; it did not come up in a night, nor should it perish in a night, but be as the days of heaven. The sermons and writings of the apostles are transmitted to us, and we at this day are built upon that foundation, ever since the Christian church was first founded by the ministry of the apostles and seventy disciples; as one generation of ministers and Christians has passed away, still another has come. By virtue of that great charter (Mt. 28:19), Christ has a church in the world, which, as our lawyers say of bodies corporate, does not die, but lives in a succession; and thus their fruit remains to this day, and shall do while the earth remains.

CHOSEN is my Word for the year.

It is one I need to hear often from the Lord. I need to hear HIM tell me I matter. I need to hear HIM tell me that I am making a difference. I need to hear HIM tell me I am CHOSEN and appointed. Earlier in my life, I needed to hear those words from PEOPLE, but God has…little by little…lifted me from the miry pit of people pleasing and my constant needing tho have the approval of others to realize my value and my purpose. Oh, when I am honest, I see that I still WANT that all too often.

It is NOT THAT I HAVE ALREADY ATTAINED ALL OF THIS (March 3 SEED) but I am pressing on and pressing in.

When I am hit with that all too familiar place of neediness and desire for approval, I am far quicker to hear His voice again say, “Pat, I CHOSE YOU”.

How about you? Are you in the same boat? Do you sometimes forget it is Jesus we are longing to serve? to connect with? to walk with in unbreakable intimacy and fellowship?

I will be joining you this week my friend, as I plant some FRESH SEED truth—-I am CHOSEN and so are YOU! Do you know what for? Do you know the fruit you are called to nurture?

I would be honored, as always to hear from you as we DEPOSIT (aka PLANT) God’s Word in our hearts.

Your thoughts.

S.E.E.D.S

Send forth your LIGHT and your TRUTH, let them guide me; let them bring me to your Holy mountain, to the place where you dwell.

Psalm 43:3

One of the things I am most thankful for since my surrender to Christ on June 9, 1984, if not THE THING I am most thankful for, is my love for God’s Word. It came strictly by grace. I was very unfamiliar with God’s Word up until that day. I knew only the basics of the Christian faith–Jesus was born in a manger; died on the cross; rose again and went to heaven where good people go when they die.

Upon lifting me head from the alter of surrender, my eyes went straight to God’s Word and latched on. I have had a deep love for the scriptures every since. Not without fail mind you. I have lapses of “in the Word” times, mostly when I am knee deep in MY VERSION of ministry, leaving my quiet time for “when it works out”. I am always lonely when I let that happen. I always have a sense of emptiness no matter how busy I get. I am so grateful for that. I WANT to be empty without God’s Word.

The truth is, I am in a season of sifting. It has been a LONG season and frankly, I am tired of it. Transition has been going on in my life, in one way or another, pretty consistently for about 5 years now and I have not always handled it well. There have been many days when I have been confused. Times when I have felt rejected. Risks God has called me to take, where I have been fearful. I have all too often, resorted to my “go to” response when I am insecure and afraid, I RUN! I RUN hard and fast.

Of course, I don’t mean to run from God but sometimes I do without realizing it. I run to people. I run to accomplishment. I run to success. I run to approval. I run to what is NEW. I run to what is OLD. I run to busy. I run to activity.

Fortunately, my Jesus runs faster. He pursues. He chases. He shows up. He speaks. He shines light into the darkness  and He places TRUTH in my path.

He calls and I stop running away and run into His arms; His Word; His dwelling place.

Jesus chases you as well. He NEVER lets go.

I love these words from Beth Moore’s Praying God’s Word in the Chapter titled “Overcoming the Enemy” where she teaches and reminds us that we in fact HAVE AN ENEMY and he is always looking for a chance to slip in and cause doubt, despair, darkness. I love how Beth reminds us that when we are serious about God and Kingdom service, that we move from being an “interest” to the enemy to being a “concern” to being a “THREAT”.

This is what she says:

“The Bible has much to say about fighting the good fight of faith and becoming well trained soldiers…but it has far MORE to say about the pure pursuit of God and all things concerning HIM!”

I would love to hear how YOU are doing with your WORD time. How is the enemy showing up in your life today?

Can you share a Word that God has given you to use as a weapon against enemy attack?

Celebrating Easter

Happy Easter friends. I have such a great Easter post going on in my head but am not not sure if it will get from my head to my blog before Mother’s Day :) so…. I decided to share some family fun as a blessing to you for Easter.

I enjoyed some fun in the kitchen with one of my 2 Daughters-through-love last night. After we enjoyed some impromptu Shrimp and Grits and Oyster Stew, Kim (@everythingesty) and I took a stab at a little treat I found on Pinterest to share a family picnic today.

Doesn’t it look BEAUTIFUL! (Kim makes everything look amazing but this REALLY tastes as good as it looks and is SO EASY you could make some at the last minute.

Here is the Recipe: (I doubled it)

1 bag white chocolate chips

1 bag mini rainbow marshmallows

1 TBPS or shortening or veggie oil

Easter Sprinkles

Line a glass baking dish or cookie sheet with parchment paper. I LOVE William Sonoma Perpetual Parchment Paper (personal hint—DON’T give your daughter-through-love a very sharp knife to cut the completed bark with or no more perpetual parchment paper).

Put White Chocolate in a bowl with the shortening and microwave in 30 second increments until it melts.(usually about 2 minutes TOTAL!) (WARNING-Do not overcook the chocolate, it may look a tiny bit lumpy until it is stirred really well.)

Add the marshmallows and stir them in quickly. Don’t over stir and melt them just cover the marshmallows with the melted white chocolate.

Spread mixture onto your covered pan and put in your freezer for 20 minutes.

Remove from freezer, cut into small squares or you can use a “Pam” sprayed cookie cutter for shapes, and hold yourself back!! I mean hold your KIDS back :)

Speaking of KIDS! I wanted to pass along a wonderful Easter Egg Hunting idea I pulled off my friend Susan Merrill’s  (Passionate Mom) blog last week. This is an AWESOME idea I wish I had had for my own kids but will use today for my “G’s”.

Happy Easter my friends. JESUS Lives!!
